Spectacular views, a tranquil environment and luxurious villas, are just some of the attractions of the exclusive Ruffles Lodge. Perched on a ridge with expansive views, Ruffles is situated in the Gold Coast hinterland only eight minutes from the motorway and 5 km (as the crow flies) from Dreamworld. A very private place, the lodge is set on 50 acres with beautiful landscaped gardens and surrounding eucalypt forest. http://www.ruffleslodge.com.au info@ruffleslodge.com.au When we decided to build RUFFLES our first choice of architect was Chris Beckingham, well known for his beautiful homes and retreats in the tourist area of the Whitsundays. Our first challenge was to persuade him to accept a commission well south of his stamping ground. We felt sure that if he would agree to visit the site he would accept the challenge of such a beautiful place, in-fact the completed lodge follows closely his original concept from that first visit to the site. The main building is an extension of the Queenslander style with large veranda, stone walls, high ceilings and beautiful timbers. The use of aged timbers re-milled from 100-year-old wharves along the Brisbane river, add to the charm. The dining and lounge area is an ideal place for meeting before dinner. The large covered terrace also provides another place for dining during the warmer months and the poolside gazebo with its wood-fired oven is yet another great place for dinner or breakfast with views east across rambling hills to the ocean. The "garden gazebo", situated on a raised knoll with views in all directions and the sun all day, is an ideal place to relax with a book, enjoy a coffee or a complimentary drink from the fridge. Our first three villas were completed as part of Stage 1 of the RUFFLES LODGE development and are totally separate from the main lodge. Villas 1 and 2 are separated by a porch, and Villa 3 stands alone. All have 180-degree views across rural land to the Broadwater and ocean beyond. The Coomera River meanders from behind hills to the south into the foreground where it joins the Broadwater. The high-rise buildings of Surfers Paradise can clearly be seen to the south and at dusk the skyline becomes a panorama of lights. The interior design is one of style and warmth with beautiful aged timbers used throughout. Each has its own covered deck and the bathrooms are large and well appointed. Beds are king size, (single beds also provided) and every effort has been taken with the selection of quality linen and toiletries. Whether you are staying with us on business or pleasure, we have added a few small conveniences such as, high-speed Internet connections, video, satellite and free-to-air TV and each Villa has its own private phone number. It is our opinion that even whilst on holiday, it is good to have the option to send or receive e-mails or watch your favourite news programme. The facility is there, use it or ignore it, the choice is yours. Ruffles Lodge has been built on 50 acres with 3 acres of garden and parklands, bush and forest as our neighbors. The tranquility and peace a beautiful garden instills is enhanced by the birds and animals that native plants and shrubs encourage, also by the inclusion of several water features. For the golfing enthusiast there is a "par 3" golf hole with bunker, putting and chipping areas. Special attention has been paid to walks, whether it is the 1km track that surrounds the lodge or the extensive network of trails that extend for miles into the bush and forest surrounding the property. It makes for a very special private place from the moment you enter the security gate and drive the 1km to the lodge. From the outset of chartering our giant sailing catamarans on Sydney Harbour, we realized the importance of producing interesting, quality food. We follow this principle through with Ruffles Lodge. We certainly have the location to give our guests a memorable experience with 3 main dining areas each able to meet the mood of the particular day. We both have a more than average interest in food and as in the past, we are prepared to go to almost any lengths to acquire the freshest and best produce. We have built a wood fired oven into the dining gazebo in order to introduce an extra range of tastes in breads, meats, vegetables etc. Dinner starts at 7pm when guests gather for pre-dinner drinks. Dining at "Ruffles" is dinner party style unless a more intimate setting is requested. In making dining an important part of staying at "Ruffles", we will from time to time, introduce guest chefs. Beautiful wines are an important accompaniment to an enjoyable meal. We contacted Peter Bourne, renowned Sydney wine expert, and followed his advice in the establishment of our cellar, which includes a selection of wines from Australia's larger and boutique wineries.
