Katherine NT Holiday & Travel Guide
Northern Territory

The saying 'Never Never' comes from the local belief that those who live in and love this country can 'never never' leave it. It was immortalised in the book "We of the Never Never" by Jeannie Gunn. The Katherine Gorge is one of the most spectacular areas in the country, winding 12 km with walls more than 70m high.

There are 13 magnificent gorges in the Nitmiluk National Park, which is the traditional home of the Jawoyn people. These gorges have taken 20 million years to carve their way through the red sandstone. Visitors to the park can paddle these spectacular gorges in canoe, swim the crystal clear waters, or take a boat tour with an aboriginal guide, who love to relay the regions history. If you like a walk, there are over 100km of walking trails in this fantastic park
