Bowen Historical Museum
Cared for by a dedicated group of volunteers, the many hundreds of items are displayed in one of the specifically designed museum buildings in the State.

The history of the area is traced through the different displays, including the geology of the district and history of early aboriginal inhabitants through to Captain Sinclair and the early settlers.

There are shipwrecks, including relics from the Gothenburg which sank off Bowen in 1875. Beside the museum is a slab cottage built in the district in 1873. The cottage was brought into town slab by slab then rebuilt and restored, complete with period furniture and fittings
