Fraser Island Holidays - Queensland

Fraser Island is situated in Great Sandy National Park, of Queenslands beautiful Sunshine Coast region. 3 hours drive north of Brisbane. Accessible by barge ferry from either Rainbow Beach or Hervey Bay.

Fraser Island, is the world’s largest sand island, a nature based holiday destination which offerring spectacular white beaches, coloured sand cliffs, dunes, creeks, lakes, wildflower heath land and rainforest. Protected within Great Sandy National Park, the island is home to a variety of wildlife including migratory birds and rare animals such as the ground parrot and Illidge’s ant blue butterfly.

Roaming around on the island is what is thought to be the purest strain of dingoes in eastern Australia.  Fraser Island’s east coast, also its surf coast, has an alluring list of attractions. Seventy Five Mile Beach, The Cathedrals; 15 metre sheer cliffs composed of different coloured sands; the wreck of the Maheno, a trans Tasman luxury liner, and Eli Creek, a freshwater creek filtered through the dunes where visitors can float beneath the pandanus trees.

Camping, fishing, swimming, and bushwalking are some of the more popular recreational activities in the area. Vehicle and camping permits are required.

Fraser is best explored by four-wheel drive or on foot. Please note that care should be taken around the island’s dingo population. Stay with children, walk in groups, never feed or coax the dingoes and keep all food and rubbish in vehicles or campground lockers.

Many people choose to pitch a tent on the numerous camp sites on the island. Happy Valley and Eurong Resorts cater for fishing guests and will also arrange for four wheel drive hire for those who wish to fly in.

How to get to Fraser Island
By Beach. For an unforgettable drive head north from Noosa to Double Island Point along Teewah Beach. Access via Noosa River ferry at Tewantin, then vehicular barge. Or take the highway from Noosa to Maryborough and Urangan Boat Harbour. Access by ferry from Hervey Bay. No domestic animals. Road access on Fraser Island is by four wheel drive only.
